Attend a Party (and Win Fabulous Prizes) in Your Underwear.

Jan 16th 2012

Today, after so, so, so much work, I’m officially launching the new TFB Resource Guide. It’s chock-full of awesome info from expert contributors (me being just one of the many.) But, the best part?

THE BEST PART!?!?!

You could be over there right now, in your underwear (or your PJ’s, or your business suit, whatever you fancy) entering to win over a dozen amazing prizes from a dozen different sponsors like Earth Mama Angel Baby, EvyMama, FuzziBunz, and more!

Wait – what are you still doing here?

(For real, the prizes are off the chain, and I’m really proud of the work we’ve put into the site so far, so please, go make with the clicking and see what I’ve been fussing about.)

Let me know what you like about it!

(In a few days, when the shine has worn off, you can tell me what could be done better. For now, let me have my hard-earned moment.)

The contests will stay open until Saturday at Midnight, CST, so don’t fret if you can’t enter right away, but I’m allowing people to score points by tweeting it up to once a day, so the earlier you start, the more points you can earn.

NOTE: This guide is a living work in progress.

New articles are being published every single day, both by myself, and by dozens of expert guest contributors. You may find many categories that are bare or sparsely populated, but not to worry, more content is coming by the minute. And if you’re interested in contributing an article, we’d LOVE to hear from you! Is there simply a website you’d like to share? Please, send that to us here!

ENJOY!

The guide is very easy to navigate, and is not so huge as to be overwhelming. The categories are organized well. A great foundation!

P.S. How many times has your name been misspelled in entries?

The guide looks great. It is really easy to find topics; basically the only improvement I can suggest is expanding it, which I'm pretty sure you're already planning on doing. :)

Super easy to navigate! I'm finding articles that I never saw before. Thanks for the giveaway!

I LOVE the resource guide. It'll make finding things soo much easier! Thanks a lot! I can't wait to see how it grows and changes these next few years!

I love that every article empowers women to be great moms, and to stand up for themselves, because you CAN get what you want out of motherhood. I would love to see more about breast feeding preemies, or those who have other high calorie needs. This was a roadblock we encountered, and were not able to get past.

Good article about toxic chemicals in baby products. Along these lines I would love to see a product guide for non-toxic household cleaners and personal products for mom and baby.

Also good article on Family Centered Cesarean. I wrote a guess post for Rixa at Stand and Deliver about how we changed the culture of cesarean birth in our community hospital and began offering skin to skin in the OR as the norm. I would recommend that moms who are faced with cesarean need to talk to the hospitals just as much to the their individual care providers. Many physicians are not employed by the hospital and have very little say about the flow of how things are done in the OR. Until administrators, anesthesiologists and the nurses are all on board with family centered cesarean it isn't going to change. It took a lot of hard work and education to get skin to skin into our little hospital's OR. It will take much more than one woman talking to her one OB/GYN to get ingrained practices changed within institutions. It can be done, but it will be a much larger undertaking than a simple conversation in the office with the OB/GYN.

Thank you so much for creating this, Gina! I love how easy it now is to search the wealth of information available on your site, which makes it great when recommending The Feminist Breeder to friends! So awesome! :)

Nice job, Gina! So much information here! It's great. I haven't found anything I'd change. Thanks for putting it together.

You did an amazing job. Thank you for everything! I can't wait to start sharing articles with my doula clients!

Wow, you and your team have done A LOT of work putting this together. I think it looks absolutely fantastic! I like the breadth and depth of topics covered and I look forward to seeing it get even more filled in and built up. I have more of a question than a suggestion: if we already follow the blog, will new entries in the resource guide show up in the our blogger reader? If not (and I'm thinking it doesn't, just because the only new TFB entry I got was the "Welcome" post), how can we get the updates?

TheFeministBreeder 75 pts moderator

crystalbuffaloe No, the resource guide is its own RSS feed, so you'll need to subscribe to that feed if you want those delivered. I wanted to keep it separated for those who only want to subscribe to the either the blog or the resource guide, or both. ;)

The resource guide is fantastic! My only complaint is that some articles were not in sections that I would have thought they would be in...but that's just a reader issue, not you! I'm really excited about this launch! I think it will be great for your blog!

SingingCicada 6 pts

The resource guide is very easy to navigate. It's eye catching too! I can't think of any improvements at the moment! thank you for your hard work!

emichan 6 pts

I love the layout - so easy to navigate! I can't really think of any suggestions for change at the moment.

nmarks 5 pts

I love the layout of this and how easy it is to search! What I don't love - the colors. Green and pink just aren't my favorite, but that's okay! I know others like them! Such a great resource - thanks!

Having an awesome time reading the various articles. Thank you for doing this!

I love how easy it is to find things here. And I love the kind request for contributors who are reading your blog and/or guide. Regarding suggestions: I can't think of a thing- you really nailed it!

The search function is great and I appreciate the variety of contributors. I think time will continue to improve the offerings in the resource guide.

I LOVE the organization of the Guide, and how easy everything is to find!

I absolutely love this! My first discovery on here was how to fold your cloth wipes in the pop up container, love it! Is there anything on here about Vaccines? If not, that's a topic I'd like to learn more about!

Thank you for creating this resource. I can't wait to read through it!

I can't wait to get through the rest of the site! What a fabulous idea!

I love this resource page. I don't have any criticisms. Looking forward to reading all of the articles in depth.

NewDayBirth 6 pts

Love the site, love the organization of subject matter. If I had to share a criticism it would be to make the drop-down menu alphabetical. Great work, TFB!

junebaby3 6 pts

Everything is easy to find so far! Looks great!

ShortyRobs 6 pts

I love everything and my only constructive criticism is that drop-down category box could be in alphabetical order.

StarryMom 15 pts

ShortyRobs I went ahead and re-did the category drop down so it's in proper order!

ArianaAllard 6 pts

AWESOME. Love your choice in topics/subject matter. I wish there was more but I know its coming!

CourtneySmith 6 pts

This is great! A great idea, and a great contest. The scavenger hunt really gets people looking around your site and getting comfortable with how it is laid out. Love it!

HollyScudero 9 pts

So far, I LOVE it!! As a woman expecting her first child shortly, I can already tell that this site is going to be completely invaluable to me. The drop-down menu is a little bit difficult to navigate; perhaps you could make it alphabetical or something? Other than that, I love everything I've seen so far. :)

StarryMom 15 pts

HollyScudero I went ahead and re-did the category drop down so it's displayed properly now!

I am not a fan of the livefyre log-in... it edited that out of my last comment. I have to agree that "Livefyre may post status messages, notes, photos and videos on my behalf." in order to post here.

TheFeministBreeder 75 pts moderator

AmericaCoates Wait, which part did it edit out? Did you log in using your facebook account, or did you create a separate LifeFyre account? I haven't seen that message before, but I log in with my twitter account.

CassieLMS 6 pts

AmericaCoates I have to agree, I'm also not a fan of the livefyre login. I would like to be able to log in as a guest with my name and email, or with my google account. Logging in with my Facebook or Twitter requires me to give Livefyre permission to post messages on my pages, and I don't want it doing that.

TheFeministBreeder 75 pts moderator

CassieLMSAmericaCoates I can see why people may not like it. I've been through at least a dozen different comment systems, and this is the only one that helps me cut down on the intense amount of troll and spam comments I used to get, which, in turn, greatly cuts down on time-wasting and has improved my quality of life. So, I gotta keep it.

BrooklynAnderson 6 pts

The only thing I found during the last thirty minutes of navigating that I'd like to see different would be the drop down category list being more organized or alphabetical- other than that, SUPER easy to navigate!

TheFeministBreeder 75 pts moderator

BrooklynAnderson I agree - I'd like to see that too. Will see if the magnificent starrymom can make that happen.

StarryMom 15 pts

TheFeministBreederBrooklynAnderson I went ahead and re-did the category drop down so it displays in a proper order!

I love the resources, but am quite excited about your advertisers! I trust that you wouldn't support a company that is unsupportive of mothers or families. I'd love to see more product reviews or new products!

Loving it so far... no suggestions yet!

I love how easy it is to navigate. I saw the article on making your own baby food and I wish there was one on Baby-Led Weaning, too! :-)
