15 Fun Facts About My Kids – February 2012

Feb 16th 2012

My children are growing and changing so fast, I can hardly keep track anymore. All the sudden, my 5 year old has started looking and sound like a KID. Only a year ago I still thought of him as a toddler. My daughter will be 10 months old next week, and Jules will be 4 years old in May. Part of the reason I blog is to keep a diary on my kids’ development, but life gets away from me and I forget to document every little thing. (Proof: when I first published this post, I said “February 2011.” Apparently I still think it’s last year.) So today I want to leave record of the 15 little fun facts about my kids that stand out to me right at this moment. At the bottom, I want to invite you to blog about the same thing and link us up to it.

15 Fun Facts about the C-C Kids:

• Jules will only wear Super Hero shirts right now. If they are dirty, he has a nuclear meltdown, so I bought him a few more to get us through laundry day.

• Jonas wakes up excited about school every single day. It’s his favorite place in the world.

• The blackened skin from Jolene’s belly-button cauterization just FINALLY fell off. It only took 9 months. Sheesh.

• Jules will only eat two food groups: Dough & Dairy. He lives on bread, bagels, yogurt, cream cheese, and any combination of those things. He also likes strawberries and bananas. He gets lockjaw if I try to slip any sort of vegetable in his food.

• Jonas’s two favorite foods are sandwiches with banana peppers, and Chow Mein noodles.

• Jolene literally eats more table food at dinner than her two brothers combined. She’s a tiny horse.

• Jules’s favorite color is purple. Jonas’s favorite color is blue. Life revolves around giving them objects in these two colors.

• Jonas got a fish tank for Christmas. He (unwittingly) named most of the living and non-living residents after characters in Reservoir Dogs (Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, etc.) We laugh about this.

• Jules got to name the purple fish, and dubbed it “One Purple Cracked Egg.” We have no idea how he came up with this.

• Jolene has two bottom teeth and a top one just popped in. She’s working on breaking the neighboring top tooth, and it’s making her M.A.D.

• Jules is convinced that they’re going to put him in the 4 yr old room at preschool the day he turns 4. It’s going to break his heart when they explain he has to wait until next year.

• Jolene is pulling herself up on to her knees now. I predict that she’ll be pulling all the way up to standing within the next few weeks.

• Jonas can read short words now, and he does so every chance he gets. When we’re driving, he reads signs. I vividly remember doing this when I was his age, and it makes me smile.

• I can tell Jonas misses me when I’ve been busy with school and homework. He sits next to me and puts my arm around his neck. I have to chase Julesy down for hugs.

• Both the boys are still madly in love with their sister, and she adores them too. They sit and play with her while I take a shower or make food.

Now it’s your turn! Either leave a comment, or write your own post jotting down some fun things you notice about your kids right now, and link it below!

My almost 13 month old daughter, "Zee".....
-decided she wants to use the potty sometimes and drags me there from time to time...
-shares like there's no tomorrow.. Her food, water bottle, toys, books, and trash are just a few examples.
-bath time is her favorite.. She recently started (again, in her own) deciding to separate her foam letters and numbers for the bath by color. So strange.
-my daughter is also obsessed with brushing hair. Mine. Hers (what little she has). The dog's. Thankfully she knows that we all use different brushes.
-she LOVES wearing her sandals and sometimes picks out her own clothes (usually consisting of a tutu and jeans with a plain top...)
-she currently has 8 teeth (2 bottom front that came at once, followed by 4 top front at once, and finally 2 back molars breaking through now).
-her favorite past time when she isnt brushing hair, is to eat. Anything she can. she is NOT picky.
-whenever she finds trash on the floor (a piece of paper, etc), she brings it to me, says "mama, ick" and hands it to me. When I say thank you, she replies "thank you" and walks away.
-her favorite game is sneaking up on anyone with bare feet and tickling them while whispering "tickle, tickle, tickle..."
-when she gets tired, she tells me "mama, brush teef

"mama, brush teef? Night night?"

I'm constantly amazed with her immense vocabulary and overall intelligence, and can't believe how quickly the last year or so has gone...

my almost sixteen month old little guy

*thinks everything is a drum and places value on things according to their noise factor

*his favorite food is frozen blueberries and cold bananas

*every small animal is a Daa!

*he loves books and will bring them to any seated adult to read to him, sometimes taking the same book to *different people, one after another.

*Loves jazz, throat singing, and pop

*bathtime is the best time there is

*going down stairs is scary, going up is adventure!!

*Water tables are the coolest thing ever THESE ARE ALL MY TOYS!!!!

*slides are just staircases without stairs

*my son can use a normal cup but only if its a mug and has luke warm tea in it.

*Doesnt think he needs to learn to speak since he can point make baby bird noises and shake his head...or pull my shirt down... :D

*Thinks all little girls will fall for his charm...then forgets to be charming :D

*crayons are for drumming not drawing

*ukuleles are the coolest thing ever and must all belong to him (we have a VERY forgiving and accepting music store in our city!)

I love this idea. Things that are seemingly small, make up who these little people are.

I paused about a month ago and just marveled at what wonderful humans my children are. Some days they drive me mad but overall they are such caring, deep thinking, smart, and engaged kids. They wow me.

My 15½ year old Son Josiah is Taller than me (I'm 6ft) and could care less about height driven sports! He loves playing tennis and is quite good at it. He is obsessed with texting (big surprise) and still loves getting down on the floor and playing with toys. He once told me that while he knows the breast are for feeding babies, and that every mammal does it, he still enjoys looking at them and appreciates them for every use they may have. He said this when he realized I thought he was view breast in the wrong way. I love him for that, among other things.

My 6½ year old son Richard loves the color red, is probably better at using the computer than most adults, loves to read as much as he loves computers, puts the captions on when he watches television so he can learn new words (good think I monitor is viewing). He once told me he doesn't understand why I teach classes about childbirth because all women have to do is stand up or squat down and have their babies. It's just normal he says..you don't have to learn it.

My 3½ year son William is most like me. Therefore he is my "problem" child. :-) He loves giving affection and compliments but doesn't seem to take them very well. He doesn't speak much but when he does he has much to say. He takes in a lot and loves his siblings so much. He loves to eat all types of foods, try new things, and play rough.

My 1yr old daughter is a lot like me too. She was my only baby born at home and my only girl. She is very strong willed, a source of pride for me as well as the thorn in my side. She likes to play and roll around on the floor with William, her ace! She also loves to try new foods, and that makes it very easy for mama to make menus for her. She just decided to accept breastmilk in the cup (hello to more doula clients), and she'd rather play with her brothers trucks, soccer balls, army men, than her own singing tea cup and various toys. :-)

I know what mean about trying to find the time to keep records of your kids developments and funny things they do. I keep an old fashioned journal that I have been meaning to write in about this hilarious thing my daughter said about a month ago....and I still haven't done it. I need to get on it before my scatterbrain forgets what it is!

Such a great idea! You are so right about time flying and not having enough time to record the little moments.

My 2.5 year old daughter:

- is obsessed with dump trucks (not all trucks, just dump trucks) and superheroes right now.

- will eat a pound of strawberries in under 2 hours if we let her.

- just started saying "Hi, mama" when I get home from work.

I loved reading about your little ones! My 17-month old is an insane eater...it constantly blows my in-law's minds when he stays with them for the day. He's so busy, and I've loved watching him become a toddler and not so much a baby. This was a great idea, Gina!

My 3 year old is obsessed with sports - particularly hockey - and also obsessed with his clothes. He DID have a nuclear meltdown this morning because he wanted to wear a jacket without pockets to school (I'm pretty sure all his jackets have pockets, and most were in the wash). My 1 year old daughter is the "little mama" and loves to help me "fold" laundry... I swear I am not encouraging genderization...

My 7 1/2 year old nephew is reading on a 3rd grade level, is working on mastering the art of sarcasm, LOVES to be with his daddy doing "guy stuff" (because it isn't "boy stuff" anymore), loves to bake cookies, loves baseball and Transformers, is big and tough but sometimes breaks down and needs a hug or to snuggle, has to shower because he's "too old" for a bath, and is convinced that holding someone's hand can fix everything. Love that boy.

I just linked up!

Jonas and Jules and the fish tank made me laugh. And I'm glad I'm not the only one with a baby who tries to eat me out of house and home. If it's on the high chair tray it's going to be in her belly in .2 seconds.

My almost 3 y/o is obsessed with puzzles and Dumbo right now (which is a really trippy movie watching it now.) She also is extremely preoccupied with other people's happiness- always asking, "Mommy, are you happy? Is Daddy happy? I'm happy too!" My 10 m/o just got her 4th tooth, is speed-crawling out of nowhere, and pulling herself up on everything. She too eats more at the table than her big sister...what's up with that?

My four-yr old got her first haircut a few weeks ago, and now she's decided it needs to be cut about once a week. She HAS attempted this process on her own. My 5yr old is obsessed with Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, which he got for Xmas, and the little Beyblade toys. If he's not doing one of these two things he claims he doesn't have any idea what else to do.
