The Feminist Breeder Goes to Philly

Philly_love

Like I mentioned last week, I'm headed out to the Philadelphia area to visit a vaccination production facility. (yes, GlaxoSmithKline did come through with the plane tickets and hotel room, so I'm really going.)

Now here's where you come in. I'm sure I'm not the only inquiring mind around these parts, so comment back with any questions YOU would have if you were going, and I'll add that to my research.

And if you live in Philly (I'm talking to you girl-friend, and others) then let me know if we can work out dinner or breakfast or something.  I'm flying in on Thursday late afternoon, spending all day Friday either at this plant or commuting to/fro – then I'm flying straight out Friday evening.

I won't have a ton of time there, but the nice 30 hour break from my toddlers is well-timed.  Jonas (the 3 yr old) peed all over my freshly-cleaned floor yesterday about 2 minutes after he got off the potty and Julesy (the 16 mo. old) has taken to screaming bloody murder every single time I sit down (apparently I'm not allowed anymore.)

I can't wait to see how the hyphenated husband handles the two for the day while I'm gone.  If it's anything like the way he handles them when I sleep in on Saturdays, then the entire house will be ripped apart, he'll forget to feed them, and he'll be trying to put them down for a nap 20 minutes after they wake up.  Of course, he's already recruited his mother to take care of the kids while he stays outside doing yard work so at least I know THEY will be taken care of.  Lately I've been wondering why I even think he's such a great dad.  He's really been pissing me off.  He comes home from work a half hour late every day and then sits on Facebook while I try not to stick my head in the oven.  That's where he was yesterday while I was making dinner and watching my toddler piss all over my clean floor.  This isn't what I signed up for when we agreed that I'd stay home.  I'm not Suzy Freaking Homemaker.  And all I can do is bitch and yell about it, but that does no good.

So yeah… I'll go to Philly.  And maybe I won't come back.

Ak! was this yesterday and today? Sorry I missed you, but it sounds like you're pretty busy.

Have fun in Philadelphia! Let me know if I can make any suggestions for your. Or, follow us (the Philly Tourism office) on Twitter @VisitPhilly.
Sounds like you won't have a ton of free time, but if you need restaurant suggestions try www.gophila.com/dining.

On the vax front: What are the alternatives to thimerosal? And if they try to tell you "it's safe", ask if the vaccinations are ever tested with 4-8 other ones given at the same time, so we know how safe the preservatives are in the actual real-life situation. I'm always interested in why vaccinations aren't tested with other vaccinations, at least for, say, a second trial. (I understand that whole thing that if you do it at first, you won't know which one the child is reacting to.)
Gina, I get the angry housewife thing. Like I said in your "Mr. Mom" post, it wasn't any aspiration of mine to stay home with the kids. I love it and I also go stir crazy at times, especially when the dh is working a lot.
It's like they come home and feel as though they need time then to decompress after work, and you're like, "When the fuck do I get time to chill after THIS job?!" Oh right. When the kids are asleep. Got it. Or, like when you sleep in (or are out of the house for the rare few hours) and you have to come home and clean up after everyone! WTH is that? I'd love to see the hubby do that after a long workday!
Luckily, mine was this brilliant: When I went to Chicago for BlogHer, he took the kids camping. That way, the house was in the same condition when we all came home!
BTW: Why can't he play on Facebook at work like everyone else? ;)

Yeah, hm, no, that won't work here. See, he has a "reputation" to live up to. He has twitter followers and thinks they all might disappear if they indirectly learn certain things about him because of course everyone knows I'm his wife and follows every single tweet/post I write. har har! He thinks quite highly of himself and tends to deny all of his shortcomings. Anyway, maybe you could do a weekly Gripe about your spouse post. Or maybe I should find a forum or something. Oh well. Counselling tomorrow at least. We'll see how that goes!

@Melodie - oh, I get shit too, but to that I say "you don't want people hearing about it, then cut it out" OR "get your own blog."
Oh Snap.

My question is do they manufacture any vaccines fro Canada or is it just a US based facility and do they still use thermosil. I feel like I should have a ton of questions, and those two are kinda lame, but it's all I've got. As for your hubby, I feel your pain. I am absolutely unable to vent about mine on my blog or FB or twitter because he'd see it and I'd get shit on big time! Sometimes I think I should do a secret blog, but I have no time for that and I'd be bound to get caught anyway. So I'm glad someone bitches just so I can leave a comment once in awhile saying "Me too! Me too!"

Have a good trip Gina, just thinking how I feel your pain with being at home and going to school. It's almost impossible to get any studying done because hubby thinks I should be doing everything now, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids and if there's any time left over maybe study. Ugh!! Very frusturating but nonetheless, enjoy your trip :)

This one tries to act like he wasn't on Facebook, which is just so pathetic because Hello??? Who signed him in? The kids? Did the kids hack his password and get on the computer while he was ... wait... he would have had to have seen them do that since he was SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING THEM...
But oh... no matter what.. it wasn't him. Pathetic.

How exciting that you are going to Philly - for a few reasons! LoL Can't wait to hear all about the trip!
Too bad I live in CT, I would love to hang out in real life.
When my husband tries to sneak away and go on the computer for a game of chess or FB, I make it known really quickly how that's not happening. It's at the point where I have him trained on this - if I know he is on the computer, I just start walking down the hallway, and then I suddenly hear the computer chart squeak and POOF! He is up and walking away from the computer just like that!
LMAFO Gotta love men sometimes.
