The Gorgeous Results of my “Virtual” Blessingway

Mar 30th 2011

Last month, I decided to throw a “Virtual” Blessingway on the blog, which was a super fun idea given to me by Melodie of Breastfeeding Moms Unite.  She suggested that I could have readers create and send prayer flags for me to hang around the room during my birth.  I knew that my readers were talented, caring people, but I was blown away by some of the flags I received.

This one was sent to me by Rixa from Stand & Deliver.  I was struck silent when I opened the package to see this beautiful, embroidered work of art.  My husband and mother-in-law were just as blown away.  This flag was created from Rixa’s daughter’s birth blanket, and you can just feel the meaning all over it.  My mother-in-law suggested that we frame it after the birth, and my husband said it’s the type of item that our daughter might save for the rest of her life, and even pass to her own children.

I loved every single one I received, and I can’t wait to string them all together and drape them around my birthing area.  Here’s a slide show of some of my favorites:

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

For the second part of my “Virtual Blessingway” I posted a form allowing readers to submit their mobile number to get a text when my birthing time begins, and over 350 readers signed up!  I was able to save the submissions into a .CSV file and import it into the Group Text App on my iPhone.  Now I just hope that my phone can handle sending 350 texts all at once!  I have to apologize in advance to any international subscribers or anyone else who may get left off the text due to the limitations of the application. I hope technology doesn’t fail us that day.

Now that I have the “Virtual” Blessingway wrapped up, there’s nothing left to do but have the baby!  Though I wouldn’t count on getting that mass text message for at least another week or two (or three?)

Stay Tuned!

Oh Gina, these are just amazing! I only wish I had this sort of talent...(Does it count that I'll raise my freak flag for you here in Ohio all throughout your labor? 'Cause I'm super-talented at doing that.)

Wishing you a peaceful and empowering and lovely labor.

Wow - you have some talented readers out there. I wish I was one of them! (ha ha!) They are going to look great all hung up for your birth. I am so excited for you! You're ready to go girl!

What a wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing ~

damn it! I completely missed that post! I wanted to add my number!

The "I Will Rock This Birth" one actually brought me to tears. I know you've been through childbirth before and I have only just had my first. But the thought that you finally get to do a birth YOUR way - like the realization of a dream - makes me so happy for you! Sorry, I'm a sap today :) Can't wait to see that little girl's face!

You could have them all made into a quilt afterward :)

So glad you liked it! Wishing you the best as your birth draws nearer.

Such great ideas you have! Love it all!

What an amazing community. :)The flags are GORGEOUS- I agree you should frame the one with Jolene's name on it!

Beautiful! They'll be a great reminder of everybody who is lovin on you and wishing you strength.
